I like the way this turned out. I've started saving old food boxes for drawing lately. The brown color and tooth of the cardboard just seem to add an extra level to the art. I can't claim this as my own idea though. I saw some drawings done on chipboard in the "Drink and Draw Social Club" book that Image put out a few years ago. The pencil, marker, and white charcoal on chipboard just seemed to have a really cool look.  Later I some of the character concept art for "Corpse Bride" by Carlos Grangel. Apparently his preferred medium is the insides of cereal boxes.

I think I'll keep drawing on these for a while, and I'll definitely revisit these characters. Right now I'm just warming up with Halloween themes and I'm getting ideas together for a new line of screen prints I hope to launch in the next few months. More on that later.

The SKAppiest Place on Earth

Just finished up some buttons for It's A Ska World After All 2 1/2

These will be promotional giveaways at the event and at the pre-party show. Originally, both characters were going to be wearing Mouse ears, but they just wouldn't work on the girl's head. Instead I gave her the hat that Minnie Mouse wore back in the old black and white Micky Mouse shorts from the late 1920s and early 1930s.

I drew the same characters from last year's poster.

The pose of the pose of the kids  is intended to be a refernece to teh classic image of Walt Jabsco and The Beat Girl.

Look who's turning 5!

Here's this month's promo illustration for Cartoon Dump. It's the 5 year anniversary show!

This one was kind of a rush. I started working on a rough sketch with the idea that the show was on the last Monday of the month, so that would give it a week to be used for promoting. Turns out I was wrong, and the show is tomorrow. 4th Monday of every month, not the last Monday. So Jerry needed it within about 2 hours, so I sorta flew through this one. It wasn't so bad since 80% of Moodsy's body is reused from a previous design. But I still feel there were some problem areas that could have been tightened up. Oh well. I'll have more time to work on August's design.

"Fun" Fact: For the cake, I swiped the colors from the cake that Mr. Burns made in the Simpsons "Scenes From A Class Struggle In Springfield" (Season 7 Episode 14)

 

He pickled the figs himself!
